Are You a Fan Fan? If Not, You Will Be!

In any hot situation, it is never a bad idea to have a fan on hand. Whether it is battery or electric operated, the entire room will be filled with that cool-fan breeze. There are many types of fans that are available today – but the best quality fans will make your household or office feel great. Some are portable, some are not. Either way, that cool breeze makes any hot day more enjoyable.

Air conditioners and fans fall into the same category – coolants. They both take air cool air and spread it around the room to keep a consistent temperature. One important feature a fan has that most air conditioners do not is speed control. Have you ever wanted a simple, slow and consistent breeze? Well with most portable fans that have a speed control button, this goal will be reachable. Ranging from low, medium-low, medium-high and high, any portable or household fan will be able to fit your desire perfectly.

Types of Fans

There a hundreds of different types and brands of portable fans available at virtually any store today; finding a fan that is right for you is what the important part.

The range of different types of fans never ends! You will be able to find most of these different types of fans at any home improvement or department store in your area. Of course, prices will vary according to quality, features, airflow angles, power and size. Depending on your needs, buying a fan will make virtually any room cooler.

One of the hardest fans to decide on is the ceiling fan. Because they are so difficult to set up, finding the right fan is essential. By definition, a ceiling fan is a fan that is usually electrically powered and is suspended for the ceiling of a room. Typical ceiling fans also use hub mounted rotating paddles to circulate the air in a given room. The most common place for a ceiling fan is in a bedroom of the kitchen. It is recommended that you should typically place them in room’s that are highly used or populated. This is recommended because a ceiling fan rotates much slowly than an electric desk or room fan; it cools people effectively by introducing slow movement into the otherwise still, hot air of a room, including evaporative cooling. It should be pointed out that fans never actually cool the air – unlike air conditioning units – but they use much less power and are equally effective on a hot day. For environmental purposes, air conditioning is thermodynamically expensive.

Finding the Right Fan

A good ceiling fan should match the general color patterns or genre, of the rest of the room. Yes – husbands, maybe let your wives do this part. For example, a wood paneled ceiling fan would not be ideal in a room that has no wood in it – maybe try getting a solid color, in further recommendation a neutral color.

One of the most popular types of fans is the portable or mechanical, fan. A mechanical fan is a household or industrial, machine that is used to create flow within a room. A mechanical or portable, fan consists of a rotating arrangement of vanes (blades) which act on the air. Usually, these blades are contained within some form of housing or case. This may help direct the airflow or increase safety by preventing objects from contacting the fan blades. If the vanes are not restricted from a touch-free casing, it is recommended to put on some sort of protection – otherwise it is not very safe, especially with a baby or a pet in the house.

Portable fans are used for a variety of different reasons. Most of them are powered by electric motors but other sources of power are also available. Some of the different types of power include:

  • Electric
  • Hydraulic motors
  • Internal combustion engines
  • Battery operated
  • Solar power

Because fans produce air flows with high volume and low pressure, they are not considered compressors. A typical compressor will produce high pressures at a comparatively low volume. A fan blade will often rotate when exposed to an air stream, similar to anemometers and wind turbines and they often have designs similar to compressors.
